The Science

We measure what the autonomic nervous system actually does — and we target the biomarkers that reveal whether it is changing.

The Autonomic Hypothesis

Chronic sympathetic dominance is one of the most under-addressed drivers of poor sleep, low HRV, inflammation, and accelerated aging. The parasympathetic branch — the “rest-and-digest” system — is where cellular repair, memory consolidation, and metabolic recovery primarily occur.

Protocol NSR-2026 tests whether a structured, multi-modal parasympathetic activation program can produce measurable shifts in biomarkers linked to stress, recovery, and longevity.

Key Biomarkers

Targets are aspirational protocol goals based on observed directional changes. They are not guaranteed outcomes.

RMSSD

Root Mean Square of Successive Differences

Primary time-domain measure of parasympathetic tone.

Target: +20–40% improvement over baseline

SDNN

Standard Deviation of NN Intervals

Reflects overall autonomic variability and resilience.

Target: Stabilize within healthy age-matched range

LF/HF

Low-Frequency / High-Frequency Ratio

Frequency-domain index sometimes used to assess autonomic balance; interpretation remains debated.

Target: Track directional change under consistent conditions

CAR

Cortisol Awakening Response

Indicates chronic stress load and HPA axis function.

Target: Normalize morning cortisol curve

Deep Sleep %

Slow-Wave Sleep Duration

Restorative sleep stage tied to autonomic recovery.

Target: Increase by 15–30% relative to baseline

hs-CRP

High-Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein

Systemic inflammation marker influenced by chronic stress.

Target: Move toward low-risk range

Measurement Tools

Clinical-Grade ECG

Used for baseline and endpoint HRV assessments with research-level precision.

Consumer Wearables

Oura Ring, Whoop, and Apple Watch provide continuous HRV, sleep, and recovery data.

Dried Blood Spot Panels

Finger-prick biomarker collection for inflammatory, metabolic, and hormonal markers.

Salivary Cortisol

At-home collection across the day to map the cortisol awakening response.

Subjective Scoring

Daily recovery, stress, and sleep quality ratings contextualize objective metrics.
